12th National Health Promotion Conference: Inequalities in health - reflecting back, stepping forward.
29 October - 1 November 2000, Hotel Sofitel, Melbourne, Victoria.

Judy Cue and Adam Rendell
A partnership between an Aboriginal organisation and a mainstream mental health service in a rural location.

We would like to take you on a journey of how two diverse organisations have come together to work towards providing a mental health service that is culturally appropriate to an Aboriginal population that is very diverse in a rural area. The Emotional and Spiritual Well-being project was a partnership between Mungabareena Aboriginal Corporation and the Wodonga Regional Mental Health Service focusing on the issues effecting Aboriginal people in the North East of Victoria to access appropriate service to meet our spiritual and emotional wellbeing needs.

We would like to share with you the history of the project and the issues that were raised through the consultation process, and also how the steering committee work through many issues with the process and the exchange of information that took place with all the people that participated in the project.

This project faced many hurdles throughout its life span including cross border issues. However from an Aboriginal perspective we see the river as a river of life and the communities around it are our people no matter what borders the Government place upon us.
