Australian Institute of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Studies (AIATSIS) Conference - Forty years on: political transformation and sustainability since the referendum and into the future
5 - 8 November 2007, Canberra, Australian Capital Territory

This conference explored the changing face of Commonwealth policy and its practical impacts on Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples.

The main themes included:

  • Indigenous citizenship in the 21st century,
  • racial discrimination,
  • sustainability, a new way of doing business with country at the centre,
  • moments of political transformation,
  • the impacts of 'mainstreaming', and
  • grass roots Indigenous initiatives including legal services and health services.

Psychology and Indigenous Australians: Teaching Practice and Theory Conference
12 - 13 July 2007, Adelaide, South Australia

The aim of this annual conference is to improve the cultural competence of practising psychologists in relation to Indigenous Australians and to integrate the teaching of cultural competence within both undergraduate and postgraduate psychology programs.
