9th National Rural Health Conference - Standing up for rural
health: learning from the past, action for the future
7 - 10 March 2007, Albury, New South Wales
For seventeen years, the biennial national rural health conferences have
provided up-to-date audits of the state of health in country Australia.
Two issues have been on the agenda over the whole of that period and remain
unfinished business today. Indigenous life expectancy is still unacceptably
low, and there is still an insufficient focus within national research
programs on rural and remote health and wellbeing.
Conference delegates agreed a set of eighteen priority recommendations.
The full set of 250 recommendations provides a snapshot of people’s
thinking on rural and remote health as at March 2007.
Presentations related to Indigenous health included:

health research: the history, nature and achievements of the Indigenous

an initiative of AIDA, NACCHO and NRHA. Speakers from the Aboriginal health
sector described some of the clinical, community development, workforce
and organisational issues confronting them and how they have been addressed.
