Babidge S (2006)
Bodily connections and practising relatedness: Aboriginal family and funerals
in rural North Queensland.
Anthropological Forum;16(1):55-71
Based on fieldwork with Aboriginal people in rural North Queensland, this
paper considers funerals and the way in which they revitalise kinship
relations. It is argued that family connections are demonstrated at funerals
through the large numbers of people who attend them, the support given
to mourners, and the long distances travelled in order to be present.
The article highlights Aboriginal practices around death and the importance
of the notion that the dead remain in the vicinity of the living.

The impact of the Northern Territory's Living With Alcohol program, 1992-2002:
revisiting the evaluation.
Addiction;100(11):1625-1636
This article evaluates the Living With Alcohol (LWA) program and the
LWA alcohol beverage levy in the NT. The LWA program ran from 1992 until
2002 and was largely funded by the levy. The evaluation shows that when
combined, the levy and the LWA program were associated with significant
declines in acute alcohol-attributable deaths in the NT as well as Indigenous
deaths. The findings indicate a significant but delayed decline in chronic
deaths towards the end of the LWA program.

(2005)
Community-acquired pneumonia in northern Australia: low mortality in a
tropical region using locally-developed treatment guidelines.
International Journal of Infectious Diseases; 9:15-20
This article investigates the epidemiology of adult community acquired
pneumonia (CAP) in tropical Australia, based on admissions and treatment
guidelines of all adult patients admitted for CAP to Royal Darwin Hospital.
It was found that Indigenous people were over-represented, younger, and
more likely to have risk factors for CAP. The authors highlight that international
guidelines for the management of CAP are based on situations from temperate
regions and may not be applicable to tropical regions.
