Website reviews

This section of the Bulletin provides summaries of websites of relevance to Indigenous health. What is Koori DrugInfo?

The Koori DrugInfo website was developed as part of the Koori Access Project. This project aims to build capacity among Koori communities by increasing the relevance and accessibility of drug information and services. The Koori Access Project was implemented by the Australian Drug Foundation’s DrugInfo Clearinghouse (view website). In 2003, the Victorian Aboriginal Community Controlled Health Organisation (VACCHO), consulted with several Indigenous health workers to discover which factors hindered access to drug information from the Australian Drug Foundations' DrugInfo Clearinghouse services. The design and development of an Indigenous website for the DrugInfo Clearinghouse website followed a recommendation that emerged from this consultation.

What is the website about?

The website provides a range of drug-related information, including: online searching of the Indigenous library collection of the Australian Drug Foundation; research and reports; workplace training; community building information; listings for Koori alcohol and other drug organisations; links to other Indigenous websites; fact sheets on multiple drugs and fact sheets for family and friends. The site also contains links to other Australian Drug Foundation websites, such as the Community Alcohol Action Network (view website), Centre for Youth Drug Studies (view website) and the DrugInfo Clearinghouse (view website).

Who is the site aimed at?

The site is specifically designed for Indigenous workers who work in the alcohol and other drug related fields.

Should I check it out?

Material on this site is easy to find and easy to read with clear links. This is a useful resource for people working in the alcohol and other drug fields in the Koori community. For anyone wanting to know about different drugs the fact sheets contain useful information and include those of particular interest to “families and friends”.
