What is the Cooperative Research Centre for Aboriginal Health (CRCAH)?

The Cooperative Research Centre for Aboriginal Health (CRCAH) is an organisation that brings together research users, research providers, policy makers and service delivery agencies for the purpose of collaborative research. The CRCAH has 12 core partner organisations and 6 associate partner organisations. Most of the people working on CRCAH research projects are employed by the core partners and may be working anywhere in Australia. The Menzies School of Health Research in Darwin houses the administration and management centre and serves as a base for some of the research.

The CRCAH aims to:

  • promote high quality research through the development of research partnerships involving key stakeholders, through increased Aboriginal participation and control, and through better defined ethical practices;
  • undertake strategic research to investigate health service delivery systems, the social determinants of health, and health conditions;
  • transfer research findings into policy and practice to improve primary health care practice, to build sustainable prevention and early intervention programs, and to reduce the burden of disease on Aboriginal communities and individuals; and
  • increase formal research training opportunities for Aboriginal people.

What is the website about?

The CRCAH website provides information about the activities of the Centre, including reports that have been published. The most recent publications, media releases, events and general news are promoted on the home page. The website also contains a digital library of publications, speeches, presentations, media releases, forms, policies, and CRCAH archival material. There are sections providing information about education, training and research programs, and links to the websites of CRCAH partners. An intranet is open to all CRCAH staff, members of partner organisations, and research teams, with other people given limited access in some circumstances. Users may join a mailing list to receive newsletters.

Who is the site aimed at?

The site targets those who are involved or interested in Aboriginal health research and the activities of the CRCAH.

Should I check it out?

The website has recently been restructured, it is clear and well set up with easy to use links. The site contains comprehensive information including funding and training opportunities.
