Website reviews

This section of the Bulletin provides summaries of websites of relevance to Indigenous health. What is Cuz Congress?

Cuz Congress is an initiative of the Central Australian Aboriginal Congress Inc (Congress) - the largest and oldest Aboriginal community controlled health service in the Northern Territory (view website). The Cuz Congress super hero concept was developed in the 1980s to promote child health within Central Australian Aboriginal communities. The health promotion adventures of Cuz Congress involve appearances at functions and events, and in television advertisements. The Central Australian Aboriginal Congress has recently developed a separate website to spread the Cuz Congress good health message beyond its local context.

What is the website about?

The Cuz Congress website provides information about a variety of health services, including those delivered by:

  • Central Australian Aboriginal Congress - Alice Springs (Medical Clinic) (view website)
  • Congress Alukura Women’s Health and Birthing Centre (Medical Clinic) (view website)
  • online and telephone counselling services (view website)

The website also includes a directory of services available in each state and territory.

Who is the site aimed at?

The site provides information about health services available to the Aboriginal community of Alice Springs, and to outstations within a 100km radius of Alice. It also provides information relevant to Aboriginal people throughout Australia, with links to health services in each state and territory. In addition, the site provides information about the various health needs of men, women, and youth.

Should I check it out?

Information on the Cuz Congress website is readily located from its home page. Residents of Central Australia are likely to find it particularly relevant, but the information may also be of interest to Indigenous Australians in other states and territories, and those wishing to know more about Aboriginal community controlled health organisations.
