Community Development, Human Rights and the Grassroots
14 - 18 April 2004, Melbourne, Victoria
This conference examined community development in the current
social, political and economic climate, and explored future trends. The
conference was divided into two parts:
- Reflection - where from and where to? - which focused on reflection
and analysis of the role, methods and contexts of community development
today; and
- The grassroots - sharing and celebrating - which provided a
forum for facilitated discussions and workshops.

Juvenile Justice: from the lessons of the past to
a road map for the future
1 - 2 December 2003, Sydney, New South Wales
The aim of the Juvenile Justice Conference was
to provide an opportunity for practitioners, policymakers, researchers
and community groups to discuss the topic, share knowledge and develop
strategies to address the relevant issues. Particular emphasis was placed
on preventive approaches, proactive programs, and meeting the needs
of a diverse community.

3rd Australian Family and Community Strengths Conference:
building a truly civil society
30 November - 3 December 2003, Callaghan, New South Wales
The main themes of the conference were:
- promoting strengths-based leadership/management ;
- linking schools, family and community;
- working from a strengths perspective in a problem-focused environment;
- exploring resilience;
- mobilising people and community resources (practical application).

website. The following presentation referred specifically to Indigenous
Australians:
World Conference on Health Promotion and Health Education
26 - 30 April 2004, Melbourne, Victoria
The conference aimed to assess the current status of health promotion
across the world and identify practical ways to move forward. The voices
of Indigenous and marginalised peoples whose health is seriously compromised
by their living conditions were given particular attention.
