Adams M, de Kretser D, Holden C (2003) Adams M, Page W, Speare R (2003) Appo D, Hartel CEJ (2003) This article explores the Aboriginal perspective of the disintegration of traditional Aboriginal culture resulting from Western colonisation. It summarises the consequent negative psycho-emotional effects on Aboriginal people and the lack of government policies and programs for addressing this issue. By generating a theoretical approach the authors suggest ways in which policies should change to address not only physical needs but also the psycho-emotional needs of Aboriginal people. Australian Indigenous HealthInfoNet abstract Cheng A, Hanna J, Norton R, et al. (2003) Couzos S, Lea T, Mueller R, Murray R, Culbong M (2003) Cunningham C, Stanley F (2003) Davidson JA (2003) This article describes the epidemiology and outcomes of a descriptive, retrospective study to review emergency department cases of near-hanging in the Northern Territory. Near-hanging cases were shown to be more significant in the Indigenous population, more commonly among young males from the Tiwi Islands. Drug abuse was a common risk factor for near-hanging. Strategies to identify and reduce risk-factors for suicide and self-harm rates in the population have been stressed as paramount. K (2003) Hoy WE, Wang Z, Baker P, Kelly A (2003) This article presents the findings of a clinical trial to reduce death from renal failure in an Aboriginal community of Tiwi Islanders. People at risk of developing chronic conditions such as cardiovascular disease, diabetes, and hypertension, were screened and treated with perindopril and additional agents to reach defined blood pressure, glucose and lipid levels. The results showed a marked reduction in death rates from renal failure in the community. Australian Indigenous HealthInfoNet abstract Ivers RG (2003) Johnson GH, Mak DB, Laming AC, et al. (2003) Mak DB, MacKendrick A, Bulsara MK, et al. (2003) McConnel F (2003) McDonald M (2003) Mooney G (2003) Nel P, Pashen D (2003) This article reviews the level of antenatal service delivery
available to pregnant women in remote northern and western Queensland,
with a particular emphasis on Indigenous women. Increases in perinatal
mortality prompted the review, and service changes have been implemented
in order to improve outcomes. The article highlights the changes made
in the delivery of local and regional antenatal services. Ring I, Brown N (2003) Thompson PL, Bradshaw PJ, Veroni M, Wilkes ET (2003)
