The NHMRC Road Map: a strategic framework for improving Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander health through research.

The Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Research Agenda Working Group (RAWG) is a joint initiative of the Office for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Health (OATSIH) and the National Health and Medical Research Council (NHMRC). This report provides details on the NHMRC Road Map, a strategic framework for the development of a health research agenda which engages Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities with researchers, health service providers and policy makers. Included in the report are the research themes identified by RAWG and a summary of issues arising from the associated consultation process.

The RACGP Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Women's Project: supporting GPs to improve early detection and management of breast and cervical cancer in Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander women.

This report documents an evaluation of the RACGP Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander women's project. The project aimed to identify barriers to the early detection and management of breast and cervical cancer in Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander women and identify strategies that GPs and other health workers could employ to overcome them (view abstract and project report). Included in the report is an outline of the project, which was implemented in three pilot sites, and the process evaluation which was the main method utilised for assessment. Conclusions are detailed in a discussion.

Breaking the silence on sexual abuse. 'My body belongs to me'. An awareness-raising project for Aboriginal communities

The project 'My body belongs to me' was initiated by the Department of Indigenous Affairs (DIA) in response to concerns raised by Indigenous Australians regarding the incidence of sexual abuse in their communities. This report describes the process of developing a video that encourages Indigenous people to overcome their reluctance to talk about sexual abuse. It includes details of the consultation process with Indigenous women and men throughout the project. Also described are the accompanying training workshops for community organisations and government service providers which are designed to demonstrate how to use the video in a culturally appropriate manner.

The report summarises the findings and makes a number of recommendations for determining an appropriate response and plan of action.
