Dentistry in remote Aboriginal communities

The manual 'Dentistry in remote Aboriginal communities' is designed to assist dental personnel intending to work in remote Aboriginal communities. It offers a cultural and clinical orientation for oral health programs, as well as containing material on primary health care and service delivery systems.

The manual was published by Nganampa Health Council in 2001. It may be purchased on a cost-recovery basis for $20 plus postage and handling.

Our dream...stopping the violence

Produced by the Domestic Violence Advocacy Service and published by Redfern Legal Centre Publishing, this booklet uses simple language and cartoons to provide information on domestic violence and the law in NSW. The information booklet is specifically designed for Aboriginal women and has been developed in consultation with them. Contact details for those seeking legal advice are provided at the end of the booklet.

Scabies video

Aboriginal Resource and Development Services Inc. (ARDS) have an extensive range of publications and information papers, including a scabies video. The video was released at the end of 2001 and includes information on the prevention and treatment of scabies. The video is available at the cost of $33 and runs for 30 minutes.

'Taking care of baby' - SIDS resources

The 'Taking care of baby' video, poster and brochures were produced by SIDS Northern Territory with the assistance of Aboriginal health organisations and Nungalinya College staff and families.

The continence gang: stories of gaining control over bladder and bowels

This booklet, written by Esther Quintal and illustrated by Simon Kneebone, provides information on bladder and bowel control for Indigenous Health Workers. Information about the care and treatment of incontinence is provided in a cartoon-story style, and employs true Aboriginal humour to address this sensitive and frequently neglected issue.

The Royal Australian College of General Practitioners' new Indigenous health information service

The Department of Health and Ageing has funded the Rural Faculty of the RACGP to coordinate two national Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander health projects, one focussing on GP registrars and the other on general practitioners. As part of these projects the library of the RACGP has funding to provide access to its resources and services for non-member general practitioners and others working in Indigenous Health.

Our services include:

  • reference and enquiry service
  • access to a unique and specialised collection of books and other materials covering areas such as General Practice, Medical Education and Aboriginal Health
  • literature searches on request
  • current awareness service
  • journal services to provide articles of interest
  • interLibrary loans service to obtain items not available in the RACGP
  • library
  • access to online resources via the College website

Some additional relevant resources have been added to the collection including books, flip charts for patient education and reports relating to Indigenous Health.
