To increase access to its web resource and build the capacity of the frontline health workforce - and to assist the health workforce in 'closing the gap' in Indigenous health - the HealthInfoNet delivered a program of free workshops across WA in 2012 and early 2013. The project was funded by Healthway, WA's health promotion foundation.
The workshops provided inter-active training to Indigenous and other health workers to increase their awareness of the HealthInfoNet and equip them with the skills to obtain the health information needed to optimise their practice.
The project will be evaluated:
The evaluation report will be available on the website in July.
The HealthInfoNet would like to acknowledge the generous support of Skywest airlines in providing return airfares for two research staff travelling from Perth to Kalgoorlie in June 2012 to conduct a series of workshops for health practitioners.
The HealthInfoNet would also like to acknowledge the support of Accor Hotels in providing reduced accommodation rates at the Mecure Broome and the All Seasons in Kununurra, Geraldton and Port Hedland for the provision of workshops in these regions.
... a very special thanks to two kind men who came to our rescue on a lonely turn-off from Tom Price road in the Pilbara - one flat tyre and a cross-threaded wheel nut was all it took to thwart two capable woman on an isolated gravel road an hour away from darkness - thank you so very much.

Perth - Workshops ongoing through until April/May 2013
Workshops were held for South Metropolitan Population Health Unit in May and June 2012.
I found the training to be very informative and easy to follow. Using the iPads made it interactive and fun. I am sure even regular users of HealthInfoNet discover something new about the site as a result of this training.

Workshops were held for the Heart Foundation 9th and 10th May 2012.
The Heart Foundation staff were happy to receive training on the HealthInfoNet website from dedicated HealthInfoNet staff. Aboriginal health is a key priority for the Heart Foundation and therefore it was important that staff were provided access to a great website which assists in meeting our needs. Learning to surf the website on iPads made the training interactive and fun.
Heart Foundation staff who attended the workshop have continued to access the site and share it with other colleagues involved in Aboriginal health.
Keep up the great work HealthInfoNet team.

Workshops were held for staff at the Specialist Aboriginal Mental Health Service, Graylands Hospital on 20 February 2013.
I have been using the Australian Indigenous HealthInfoNet for over 5 years now and have found it a very valuable source of information. Before my current position at SAMHS I was lecturing at Curtin Centre for Aboriginal Studies in the Bachelor of Applied Science Indigenous Community Health. I used to push HealthInfoNet as a valuable resource for the students and I included many reviews available on the website in the Books of Readings we made available to the students. It was also a valuable resource for keeping my knowledge on Indigenous health issues up to date.
Keep up the great work,
Specialist Aboriginal Mental Health Service

I just wanted to thank you very much for the HealthInfoNet workshop held last week at Bega Garnbirringu Health Service. I have just recently qualified as a Diabetes Educator and this workshop was perfect timing because I am starting up a diabetes clinic from scratch and wanting to know what resources are available and where I get them from. Your info net has so much information on it and I can see it becoming a very valuable tool for my practice.
The facilitators Michelle Catto and Sasha Stumpers were very helpful and made navigating the site easy and painless.

my name is Jude Bennett and recently we had a couple of your educators in Kalgoorlie showing the staff at Bega Garnbirringu Health Service how your HealthInfoNet site worked. I was very impressed and will be on the look out for things to add.

Kimberley - Workshops - August 2012
Workshops were held in the Kimberley Monday 6th August - Friday 17th August 2012
Thank you for the opportunity to attend the workshop held in Broome on Wednesday 8th August. It was an extremely well run workshop that provided us with useful knowledge delivered in a friendly, calm and engaging manner. I was very impressed with the i pads which enabled all the participants to follow the navigation of the trainer through the HealthInfoNet website. It is a site I can see myself using regularly for evidence based, up to date knowledge that is free to download. Thank you all the HealthInfoNet team and others involved for providing us with a one stop shop resource for improving the health and well being of Indigenous Australians.

Pilbara - Workshops - September 2012
Workshops were held in the Pilbara Monday 10th September - Monday 17th September 2012
I have used Health Info Net before however the workshop provided me with a greater insight into the breadth and depth of Health Info Net. I was particularly impressed with the amount of content on the site and its ease of navigation. This tool will be very useful in my work practice as I will be able to refer to a central site for evidence based information to inform program development. I think it is important for health workers to know about this site to avoid duplication of programs but to also encourage collaboration. I will certainly be promoting this tool to colleagues in the future.

Gascoyne/Mid West - Workshops - November 2012
Workshops were held in the Gascoyne Tuesday 13th November - Friday 16th November 2012
The HealthInfoNet is an invaluable resource for all health clinicians across all disciplines who are working with or interested in Australian Indigenous Health. There is no other resource like this in Australia. The workshop that I attended taught me how to navigate through the website and the depth and wealth of quality information provided. This workshop should be provided to students, qualified professionals, teachers, and any type of worker alike involved with Indigenous health. This workshop aims to promote the access and utilisation of almost every type of article, review, project, resource and fact sheet in the health sector. I would not have known of this website's importance and relevance to my practice as an Occupational Therapist if it were not for this workshop.

I will share the link to the HealthInfoNet for the month of February.
