Biography

Associate Professor Noel Hayman, whose people are Wakka Wakka (from South Queensland) and Kalkadoon (from Cloncurry, Mt Isa area), is a medical practitioner and the first Indigenous person to become a Fellow of the Australasian Faculty of Public Health Medicine. Associate Professor Hayman is Clinical Director of the Inala Indigenous Health Service in Brisbane and also holds an appointment in the University of Queensland's School of Medicine.

Associate Professor Hayman is on numerous state and national committees including the Health Care Committee of the NHMRC. In 2003, he received the Centenary Medal for his long service to primary health care in Indigenous communities and in 2008 received an Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Deadly award for outstanding achievement in Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Health. In 2011 he was awarded Queensland Australian of the Year.
