Overview
The Murri watch project was established in response to recommendations of the Royal Commission into Aboriginal Deaths in Custody. Murri watch provides support to Aboriginal men residing in south-eastern Queensland and includes two programs for men detained in local correction centres.
- the local justice initiative program provides culturally sensitive support and activities for young Aboriginal men to enable them to cope with being detained.
- the watch house cell visitor service provides support to Indigenous detainees to reduce the risk of suicidal and self-harm behaviours.
