This section provides information on journals about cardiovascular health of relevance to Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples.

American Heart Journal

American Heart Journal has been a resource for cardiologists and general practice physicians for more than 70 years. The Journal focuses its content to respond to the information needs of the cardiology community. In addition to publishing results of important clinical investigations, the Journal addresses such topics as cost-effectiveness, design of clinical trials, reports of negative clinical trials, and the changing organization of medical care. "AHJ at the Meetings" reports the key findings from major cardiovascular meetings, providing readers with ready access to the most recent clinical research data.

 

American Journal of Cardiology

The American Journal of Cardiology is an independent journal designed for cardiovascular disease specialists and internists with a subspecialty in cardiology throughout the world.AJC is an independent, scientific, peer-reviewed journal of original articles that focus on the practical, clinical approach to the diagnosis and treatment of cardiovascular disease. AJC has one of the fastest acceptance to publication times in Cardiology. Features report on systemic hypertension, methodology, drugs, pacing, arrhythmia, preventive cardiology, congestive heart failure, valvular heart disease, congenital heart disease, and cardiomyopathy. Also included are case reports, brief reports, editorials, readers' comments, and symposia.

Atherosclerosis

Atherosclerosis brings together from all sources papers concerned with research and investigation on atherosclerosis, its complications, and related diseases, including: lipoprotein metabolism, arterial and vascular biology and disease, thrombosis, inflammation, disorders of lipid transport, diabetes and hypertension as related to atherosclerosis, and cardiovascular risk factors. The journal also features clinical papers dealing with case studies of specific or general interest, new or unusual lipid syndromes, and the genetic basis and familial incidence of atherosclerosis and related diseases.

Australian and New Zealand Journal of Public Health

The Australian and New Zealand Journal of Public Health is the Journal of the Public Health Association of Australia (PHAA) and is published six times a year The journal disseminates public health research and ideas throughout Australia and internationally. The content of the journal largely consists of finished discussions of research projects however, there is occasionally space for reviews, views and historical pieces.

The PHAA provides a forum for the exchange of ideas, knowledge and information on public health. The association is also involved in advocacy for public health policy, development, research and training.

Australian Indigenous HealthBulletin

The Australian Indigenous HealthBulletin is the electronic journal of the Australian Indigenous HealthInfoNet. The purpose of the Australian Indigenous HealthBulletin is to facilitate access to information of relevance to Australian Indigenous health. The HealthBulletin attempts to keep people informed of current events of relevance, as well as information about recent research.

Cardiology

Cardiology features papers from all over the world concentrating on current strategies in the prevention and treatment of heart disease. These papers describe and offer critical appraisals of new developments in non-invasive, invasive, diagnostic and therapeutic methods. The importance of experimental work is also acknowledged through reports covering the function and metabolism of the heart and the morphology and physiology of cardiovascular disease. Special sections in a variety of subspecialty areas reinforce the journal's value as a complete record of recent progress for all cardiologists, internists, cardiac surgeons and clinical physiologists.

Circulation

Circulation is an American Heart Association journal, and presents peer-reviewed reports on clinical and laboratory research relevant to cardiovascular disease, published on a weekly basis. Editorial features include Clinical Cardiology: New Frontiers, Cardiovascular Drugs, Brief Rapid Communications, Cardiovascular News, Clinical Investigations and Reports, Basic Science Reports, Images in Cardiovascular Medicine, and From Bench to Bedside.

European Heart Journal

The European Heart Journal, is an international English language, peer-reviewed journal dealing with Cardiovascular Medicine. It is an official Journal of the European Society of Cardiology and is published twice monthly. The European Heart Journal aims to publish the highest quality material, both clinical and scientific, on all aspects of Cardiovascular Medicine. It includes articles related to research findings, technical evaluations, and reviews. In addition it provides a forum for the exchange of information on all aspects of Cardiovascular Medicine, including education issues.

Experimental and Clinical Cardiology

The official journal of the International Academy of Cardiovascular Sciences, Experimental and Clinical Cardiology is an international English language journal, that publishes original articles, short communications, letters to the editor, editorials and mini-reviews. Emphasis is given to all aspects of the cardiovascular system from basic science to clinical cardiology.

Hypertension

Hypertension is an American Heart Association journal, and presents peer-reviewed reports on clinical and laboratory investigations in the broad field of blood pressure regulation and the pathophysiological mechanisms underlying hypertensive diseases. Editorial features include Scientific Contributions, Brief Reviews, Editorials, Rapid Communications and Clinical Conferences.

International Journal of Cardiology

The International Journal of Cardiology covers a wide range of cardiology topics, from basic research to clinical papers. The journal serves the interest of both practicing clinicians and research workers .Editorials, Brief Reports and Review Articles covering recent developments are included. Controversial techniques, issues on health policy and social medicine are discussed and serve as useful tools for encouraging debate.

Medical Journal of Australia (MJA)

The MJA is Australia's leading peer-reviewed journal of medical practice and clinical research. The MJA is published by the Australasian Medical Publishing Company for the Australian Medical Association.

The print edition appears on the first and third Monday of each month, except that the December issues are combined into one large special issue. The full text of every issue since January 2002 is available on the web (only a selection of articles from 1996 to 2001 is available).

Northern Territory Disease Control Bulletin

The Northern Territory (NT) Disease Control Bulletin is produced by the Centre for Disease Control (CDC), Darwin, on a quarterly basis.

The CDC provides a range of services to monitor, control, prevent, and in some instances, eliminate communicable and non communicable diseases throughout the NT. The Bulletin forms part of this service, as it provides professional and community education about critical parts of successful program outcomes.

Nutrition, Metabolism and Cardiovascular Diseases

Nutrition, Metabolism and Cardiovascular Diseases is the official journal of the Italian Society of Diabetology, the Italian Society for the Study of Atherosclerosis and the Italian Society of Human Nutrition.

With a focus on diabetes, atherosclerosis and human nutrition, the journal looks at the interplay between nutritional and metabolic alterations, and cardiovascular disorders. Of particular interest are the origins, the mechanisms and the means to prevent and control diabetes, atherosclerosis, hypertension, and other nutrition-related diseases.

Stroke

Stroke is an American Heart Association journal, which is subscribed to by physicians, nurses, and researchers in all types of practice and institutional settings, including medical schools. The Journal is widely subscribed to by active medical professionals for important, up-to-date patient care, laboratory and clinical information about cardiovascular and cerebrovascular diseases.

The Chronicle

The Chronicle is a monthly publication produced by the Northern Territory Chronic Diseases Network. It is published by the Centre for Disease Control (CDC), which provides a range of services to monitor, control, prevent and in some instances eliminate communicable and non-communicable diseases throughout the Northern Territory. NT-wide programs, policies and strategies are developed via multisectoral consultation and implemented by district CDCs in collaboration with all levels of health care providers. Both professional and community education are critical parts of successful program outcomes.

The Chronicle has regular topics which include screening, mens health and resources. Each edition features a theme. Contributions to the Chronicle are welcome (eg. research, project updates, photographs and new resources).
