Dr Alex Brown, a top researcher in the area of Indigenous cardiovascular and metabolic disease and a consultant with the HealthInfoNet, has now commenced his new role as Indigenous Health Theme Leader at the South Australian Health and Medical Research Institute (SAHMRI). Prior to this appointment, Dr Brown was Executive Director at Baker IDI Central Australia.
SAHMRI, South Australia's new flagship health research facility, focuses its activities on cancer, nutrition, infection, heart disease, brain health, and the health of mothers and children. The appointment of Dr Brown provides an opportunity to embed Indigenous health across all of SAHMRI's research themes.
The Institute's Executive Director, Professor Steve Wesselingh, said that SAHMRI is fortunate to have appointed Dr Brown because of the depth and relevance of his experience.
'His experience in Aboriginal Health, service delivery research and public health, as well as capacity to engage government and leading agencies in setting the agenda in Aboriginal cardiovascular disease control will be a huge benefit to SAHMRI,' Professor Wesselingh said.
The Australian Indigenous HealthInfoNet congratulates Dr Brown on the commencement of his new role.
