Local researchers are undertaking one of the world's biggest studies into how diet affects diabetes. The results could re-write the rules on what sufferers should and shouldn't eat.
Traditionally a high carb, low fat and reduced protein diet is recommended for type 2 diabetes patients. The Commonwealth Scientific and Industrial Research Organisation (CSIRO) and Adelaide University are embarking on a study to see if that recommendation is still the healthiest choice. The researchers will monitor patients on different diets over two years.
To take part in the study, participants need to be 35 to 68 years old and suffer from type 2 diabetes.
