National Indigenous health award winners announced

The winners of the 3rd Annual Excellence in Indigenous Health Awards 2012 were announced on 28th March 2012 in Sydney.

Held in conjunction with the Improving Social Determinants of Indigenous Health Conference, the Awards were given in recognition of the inspirational work of service providers, communities and individuals who are making a difference in health disadvantage.

The 2012 winners and runners up across the three award categories were:

Outstanding delivery in child & maternal health

• Winner - Orbost Regional Health
• Runner Up - Ngaanyatjarra Pitjantjatjara Yankunytjatjara Women's Council
• Special Recognition - The Royal Life Saving Society - Western Australia Inc
• Special Recognition - Hunter New England Health Service, Tamworth Community Health Service

Environmental health initiatives

• Winner - Vibe Australia
• Runner Up - Cairns Public Health Unity, Northern Pride
• Special Recognition - NSW Aboriginal Housing Office
• Special Recognition -Centacare Catholic Family Service

Improving access to primary health care

• Winner - The Aboriginal Health Council of SA
• Runner Up -MJD Foundation
• Special Recognition - Derbarl Yerrigan Health Service Inc
• Special Recognition - Kornar Winmil Yunti
