In Australia, otitis media (middle ear disease) is a major public health issue for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander children. The updated version of the Recommendations for clinical care guidelines on the management of otitis media in Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander populations will be officially launched in early 2012, but is now available from the Office for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Health's (OATSIH) website in the OATSIH publications section.
The guidelines are prepared by an expert team in ear health led by the Menzies School of Health Research and aim to improve the prevention, early detection and management of otitis media in Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander children in the primary healthcare setting and improve the long term health outcomes for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander children.
