The New South Wales (NSW) Government, Ministry of Health, released the latest NSW Aboriginal ear health program guidelines on 8 November 2011, for use by Local Health Districts in NSW. Middle ear infections (otitis media) occur at a much higher rates in Aboriginal children compared to non-Aboriginal children, and often lead to poorer health and educational outcomes.
The latest guidelines are a joint collaboration of community, government health and education sectors. It provides a range of suggested strategies using a preventative approach, with the aim to reduce the prevalence rates of otitis media among Indigenous children in NSW.
