Rumbalara honoured in Victorian public healthcare awards

Date posted: 18 November 2011

The leadership and innovation shown by an Indigenous mental health service in the Shepparton area was recognised at the 2011 Victorian Public Healthcare Awards on Wednesday.

At a ceremony attended by leaders from across Victoria's health system, awards were presented to outstanding contributors to Victorian public health services across 20 categories.

The Secretary's Award for improving the health & wellbeing of Aboriginal people was given to Rumbalara Aboriginal Cooperative for the achievements of its Woongi Emotional and Spiritual Wellbeing Unit.

Rumbalara is an Aboriginal Community Controlled Health Service in Mooroopna, near Shepparton. It is currently working to establish a traditional healing centre in partnership with Yorta Yorta Nation Aboriginal Corporation.
