Territory correctional centres smoke free from 2013

Date posted: 24 August 2011

The Northern Territory Government announced that all Territory correctional centres will be smoke free from 1 July 2013, under the Territory Government's new era in corrections - a package of initiatives aimed at breaking the cycle of reoffending. Correctional Services Minister, Gerry McCarthy said the smoke free policy was part of the Government's campaign to reduce offending rates and supported the Territory 2030 targets to reduce the number of Territory smokers down to the national average.
