Australian Indigenous HealthBulletin

Healthy food on the menu

Date posted: 23 May 2011

The newly launched The Wilcannia kids cookbook features recipes which have been tried and tested by local Aboriginal students at Wilcannia Central School over the past 18 months.

The CEO of Maari Ma Health Aboriginal Health Corporation Bob Davis says 'it is also part of another program by the Indigenous footballers which is about Learning, Earning and Being a Legend, and having a good healthy lifestyle, staying at school, getting a job at the end and and being a legend for themselves and their own community.'

The students contributed by having a hands-on role, from preparing and cooking meals, to learning about healthy food, and also took part in education sessions focusing on oral and dental hygiene, and healthy food for nutrition.
