The Department of Health and Ageing's Minister for Indigenous Health, Warren Snowdon, has released a joint statement with the Northern Territory Minister for Construction, Gerry McCarthy, indicating that the construction of a new facility in Tennant Creek providing care and supervision for people needing somewhere to 'sober up' is to go ahead. The 'sobering up' shelter, due to be finished in September 2011 with accomodation for both males and females, will 'significantly improve care and supervision of Tennant Creek residents and visitors'.
