Apunipima to highlight Deadly choices message at Mapoon community day

Date posted: 11 August 2014

Apunipima Cape York Health Council is holding a Deadly choices community day this week with the people of Mapoon, Queensland (Qld), encouraging healthy lifestyle choices in the areas of nutrition, smoking and physical activity.

The event will feature a number of information stalls which will provide information on chronic disease, and highlight the relationship between smoking, poor nutrition, lack of exercise and chronic illness. There will also be sporting events, a healthy cooking demonstration and lunch provided.

'Our objective is to increase awareness about chronic disease to empower Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people to make healthy choices for themselves and their families and to increase access to the local health service,' said Apunipima's Men's Health Team Leader, Bernard David.
