The Fred Hollows Foundation launches a week long eye intensive for Indigenous people in need of cataract surgery living in remote areas of Central Australia. Approximately 50 Indigenous cataract patients will recieve the surgery at the Alice Springs Hospital. The Foundation visits patients in their communities prior to the surgery to explain the procedure and to answer any questions, they also provide information on the support provided such as transport, accommodation and meals. The eye intensive has been running since 2007 and during this time the Foundation has conducted nine other intensives through the Central Australian Eye Health Program.
