Smoking blamed in Indigenous health disparity

Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Social Justice Commissioner Mick Gooda says smoking among Indigenous Australians contributes to an estimated 17 percent of the current health gap between Indigenous and non-Indigenous Australians. Three times as many Indigenous Australians smoke than non-Indigenous Australians and treatment needs to be holistic, addressing the determinants that lead to poor health as well as the health risk factors themselves.
