The Diabetes WA team are heading to next month's Wagin Woolorama on March 7 and 8 after identifying the town as a diabetes hotspot, with 6.3% of residents currently living with the condition.
Of the 1, 848 people living in Wagin, 116 residents have been diagnosed with type 2 diabetes. The 'near by' town of Narrogin also experiences a high rate of 6.4%.
According to Diabetes WA CEO, Mr Andrew Wagstaff, the exhibit at WA's largest regional agricultural show is a great opportunity to share information with residents and raise awareness of diabetes throughout the Great Southern region.
'At Diabetes WA we're here for your health journey and want to equip people with the knowledge required to make health a top priority,' he said.
Residents living in rural areas can also benefit from Diabetes WA's free online programs, Get on track challenge and My healthy balance, designed to help participants make positive steps towards a healthier lifestyle by encouraging regular physical activity and intake of fruit and vegetables.
