Sports program 'breaking down the barriers' for Indigenous youth

Date posted: 20 January 2014

More than 140 young Indigenous people have spent a week experiencing university life at the University of Queensland (UQ) for the annual Indigenous youth sports program.

The program provides an opportunity for Indigenous high school students to consider university as a potential pathway after high school, while engaging with peers through a week of sporting and team building activities.

Professor Cindy Shannon, UQ Pro-Vice Chancellor hopes that the program will build confidence in the students, and help to break down some perceived barriers about university life.
