A new medical van carrying equipment to prevent blindness caused by diabetes will commence working across nine Queensland Indigenous communities in February 2014.
The van, funded by the Queensland Government, will support 27 Aboriginal Medical Services across nine hubs in Mount Isa, Cairns, Townsville, Mackay, Rockhampton, Hervey Bay, Morayfield, Toowoomba and Charleville.
The service includes a screening program to identify at risk clients, treatment from visiting and local eye specialists and on-board telehealth facilities.
