New Australian Diabetes Council Chair of diabetes is hopeful for the future

Date posted: 18 November 2013

Professor Charles Mackay has been announced as the Australian Diabetes Council Chair of Diabetes at the University of Sydney's new Charles Perkins Centre, and believes that new research will result in a significant reduction in the incidence of all types of diabetes in the near future.

The key, researchers believe, is fibre. While fibre has been consistently recommended by the Australian Diabetes Council dieticians and educators, its’ significance in regulating the bacteria found in the gut, and in turn the immune and metabolic responses, has not yet been fully understood.
