Just released: 2013 Review of physical activity among Indigenous people

Date posted: 23 August 2013

The Review of physical activity among Indigenous people is now available for viewing and for download from the Australian Indigenous HealthInfoNet web resource. The review synthesises the most comprehensive and up-to-date information on Indigenous physical activity.

Key areas covered include:
  • the context of physical activity among Indigenous people
  • physical activity levels among Indigenous people
  • factors contributing to physical activity levels among Indigenous people
  • the link between physical activity and chronic disease
  • costs of physical inactivity
  • benefits of physical activity
  • management and rehabilitation
  • relevant policies and strategies.

This review has been prepared by the Australian Indigenous HealthInfoNet as a part of our efforts to contribute to 'closing the gap' in health between Indigenous people and other Australians by making relevant, high quality knowledge and information easily accessible to policy makers, health service providers, program managers, clinicians, researchers and the general community.

People working, studying or interested in physical activity among Indigenous people can stay up-to-date with the latest information in the area by following the Australian Indigenous HealthInfoNet physical activity team on Twitter at AIHPhysicalActivity, and by signing up to the Physical activity yarning place.
