Eight new contracts have been awarded to alcohol and other drug services in the Kimberley and Pilbara region of Western Australia (WA).
The contracts were awarded by the Drug and Alcohol Office of WA (DAO) as part of the WA State Government's commitment to providing services closer to the people who need them.
Mental Health Minister, Helen Morton, said it was a great outcome for communities already starting to see benefits from initiatives such as liquor restrictions.
'These resources are critical to sustain improved outcomes to reduce alcohol and other drug-related harm and improving community safety and security,' Minister Morton said.
Minister Morton said that DAO was also successful in securing housing in areas historically considered hard to staff due to a lack of long-term accommodation.
Additionally, Regional Development Minister, Brendon Grylls, said the Royalties for regions funding for this service expansion would enable the recruitment of additional staff.
