Biography

Jacinta Elston currently holds the positions of Professor and Associate Dean of Indigenous Health in the Division of Tropical Health and Medicine and Co-Director of the Anton Breinl Centre for a Health Systems Strengthening at James Cook University (JCU). She is a descendent of both the Kalkadoon people of North-West Queensland and the South Sea Islander people.

Jacinta holds a Masters of Public Health and Tropical Medicine from the Faculty of Medicine, Health and Molecular Sciences at JCU. In her role as Associate Dean, Professor Elston provides leadership and strategic advice on Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander health matters. Jacinta has previously served on several ministerial appointments to committees at both state and national levels. These include the:

Jacinta has interests in Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander health; health workforce and service delivery; and research capacity and development.

In 2009, Jacinta was awarded with the Australian Learning and Teaching Council (ALTC) Citation for Outstanding Contributions to Student Learning with Dr Marion Gray, Marianne Bonassi and Yvonne Thomas at JCU.
