Biography

Haylene is the Director of Policy and Reform at Aboriginal Affairs New South Wales (NSW). She is an Aboriginal woman of Murri descent from Far North Queensland (Qld).

In her role as Director of Policy and Reform for Aboriginal Affairs NSW, Haylene is focussed on increasing education, employment and accountability with Aboriginal communities in NSW. Haylene has multiple degrees and qualifications, including a:

Haylene began her career working at the Wuchopperen Health Service in Cairns, Qld which allowed her to pursue a career in nursing and midwifery. Following this, Haylene quickly gained experience in the public sector, starting work on an Executive Development Program. She worked in the public sector for over 30 years (mostly in Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander health and affairs), including six years in the federal health system.

Haylene’s career has included positions in service delivery (both administrative and clinical), policy development, program implementation and project management. She also worked in the Queensland Public Service Commission as Executive Director for Project 2800, a Qld Government initiative committed to providing employment opportunities for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people in the public sector.
