Kate Conigrave is a doctor who works in the field of drug and alcohol and public health, and holds specialist qualifications in addiction medicine and public health. She works at Royal Prince Alfred Hospital in Sydney, working with individuals with alcohol or other drug problems. Kate also holds a conjoint position as a Professor at the University of Sydney medical school.
Kate has had the opportunity to work in partnership with Aboriginal communities and agencies in urban, regional and remote Australia over the past 15 years. This includes collaborations in both research and in teaching for frontline workers, supporting communities in their efforts to address harms from substance use.
Kate was one of six editors of the Handbook of Aboriginal drug and alcohol work which was written for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander health professionals. She was also an editor of the book Addiction medicine which was published internationally by Oxford University Press to guide doctors and nurses in the alcohol and other drugs field.
Kate has a special interest in putting best evidence into day-to-day clinical practice, and making health care for alcohol and drug problems more accessible.
