Biography

Dr Rina Cercarelli has worked in the field of injury prevention for over 22 years. She is currently a Chief Investigator of the National Drug Research Institute’s Creating Healthy Workplaces Project Evidence Review and is a board member for the Injury Control Council of Western Australia (ICCWA).

Rina has previously worked as Director and Deputy Director of the Injury Research Centre at the University of Western Australia and has also served as President of the ICCWA.

Rina has conducted research on road safety, childhood injury, interpersonal violence, falls prevention and injuries involving Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people. Her main research interests have focussed on substance use in relation to driving, fatigue, vulnerable road users, road safety involving Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people, and the evaluation of road safety policy. Rina’s research has been published in a variety of peer reviewed, international journals and has led to significant changes in injury prevention policy in Western Australia and nationally.
