Sammi Fatnowna is an Itinerant Support Teacher, Hearing/Conductive Hearing Loss, in South Kempsey, New South Wales (NSW).
Sammi grew up on the Mid North Coast of NSW and gained her Primary Teaching qualification from Armidale College of Advanced Education. She commenced teaching near Kempsey and then taught for 3 years in Western Australia, near Meekatharra, with her husband who is also a teacher.
Most of Sammi's career has been involved in teaching Aboriginal students, and from her experiences in needing to cater for hearing loss she was invited to work with the itinerant hearing team, teaching Sensori-Neural students. She then commenced her current community-based role as Itinerant Support Teacher, Hearing/Conductive Hearing Loss, in 2005, visiting schools and preschools, as well as other community groups including playgroups, mums groups and daycare groups.
Sammi is passionate in educating students about ear health - including filling a void in current appropriate teaching resources by developing, with family support, a range of her own resources which are found on the EarInfoNet website. She has many more ideas she would love to develop, all geared around ear health, and including parents in the process.
